EDUCATION SYSTEM IN PAKISTAN

Pakistan is the country situated in South Asia and it is the sixth most populous country in the world.Education in Pakistan has got a sea change in the last few decades. Before the independents the literacy condition in Pakistan was very poor. Hardly few people were literate that time. Now Pakistan education commission and Pakistan education foundation have taken up the imitative to educates girls and reduce gender disparity in the country. A white paper would be created and distributed among all the stake holders so that they can comment and give feedbacks. After that this paper will be sent to government for approval.

LEVELS OF EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN


 The education system in Pakistan is generally divided into five levels.
(1) Primary Level
(2) Middle
(3) High Education / Secondary Level
(4) Intermediate / Higher Secondary
(5) University

 PRIMARY EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN


In Pakistan the education system adopted from colonial authorities has been described as one of the most underdeveloped in the world. Barely 60% of children complete grades 1 to 5 at primary schools despite three years of  play group, nursery and kindergarten pre-schools to prepare them.

MIDDLE LEVEL EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN


After passing grade 5 examination which is conducted by the Punjab Examination Commission Lahore, students are promoted in to Middle level ie grade 6 to 8. At middle level single-sex education is usually preferred by the community but co-education is also common in urban cities of the Pakistan.
At middle level of education the eight commonly examined subjects are Urdu, English, Mathematics, Arts, Science, Social Studies, Islamiyat and computer studies. Some institutes also give instructions in foreign languages such as Turkish, Arabic, Persian, French and Chines.  The language of instruction depends on the nature of the institution itself, whether it is an English medium school or an Urdu medium schools.

SECONDARY LEVEL EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN


After passing grade 8 examination which is conducted by the Punjab Examination Commission Lahore, students are promoted to high/secondary  level ie 9 to 10 which is also known as Secondary School Certificate SSC. Students are required to pass a national examination administrated by a regional Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE). Upon successful completion of these two examination, they are awarded a SSC certificate. This is locally known as "Matriculation".
At the curriculum usually includes a combination of eight courses included elective subjects such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry , Computer as well as compulsory subjects such as English, Urdu, Mathematics, Islamiyat and Social Studies.

HIGHER SECONDARY EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN


Higher Secondary Certificated is generally know as intermediate (12th grade) in Pakistan. A child enters in this level on successful completion of SSC. It is a two years University preparation course and teaching is conducted at college and equivalent institutions. The curriculum is divided into for course streams; Pre-medical, Pre-engineering, Arts & Humanities and Commerce.Successful candidates are awarded Higher Secondary School Certificate by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, an examination conducted body.
Many private schools in the country follow the A'level Cambridge Education System. It is divided as; Pre-medical group, Pre-enineering group. Business group,  Business/Computing Business/Arts etc.

UNIVERSITY LEVEL EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN


After earning HSSC, students may study in a professional college/university for Bachelor's degree courses such as engineering (B.Engg/BS.Engg), medicine (MBBS), dentistry (BDS), veterinary medicine (DVM), Law (LLB), architecture (B.Arch), Pharmecy (Pharm-D) and nursing (B.Nurs). These courses required four or five years of study. There are some councils and boards that will handle all the educational matters in these cases and they are known as the PMDC, Pakistan pharmacy council and Pakistan nursing council. Students can also attend a University foe Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc), Bachelor of commerce (B.Com).  

ISSUES OF PAKISTAN EDUCATION SYSTEM

Pakistan is amongst those countries which are going through many problems of education. There are many flaws in the current education system of Pakistan that need to be resolved. In Pakistan, education system does not meet the international standards.
The main problem is inequality between public and private education sector of Pakistan. From the lat few years there ha been an increase in the growth of private schools which have caused discriminate among students who learn in private schools are more knowledgeable than students of Government schools.
